Happy New Year!

Report

Just wanted to drop a fast note on what is going on.  We got 4″ over night and it is still snowing.  The snow we got is the packing type and just what we need.  This will give the groomers some good material to work with.  Forecast is calling for another storm tomorrow.  That’s all for now….I have to go play motel.

Everyone……

got a nice surprise yesterday.  As the trails came around when the temp dropped back down below freezing later in the morning.  I had some guests tell me that they had thought about going home but when the temp started to drop they decided to stick it out and they where glad they did as some of them put on over 100 miles yesterday.  Forecast is calling for some snow tonight and temps to drop below zero towards the middle of the week.  Report from the town is up to a 4″ base and fair conditions.

got the snow Gods mad at us. Everything was pointing in the right direction for us to get snow last night. Well we didn’t and we got some of the R stuff. At least it wasn’t a big R event and the snow pack out front only went down about an inch or two. We do still have a foot on the ground out front at the pool fence. The forecast is calling for it to drop into the teens tonight with the chance of precipitation at 40%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. As always time will tell. The report from the groomers is up to a 4″ base and fair conditions.

Snow Gods are………….

liking the Old Forge area this season so far. We picked up about 4″ of heavy wet snow yesterday and the temps is 31 as I am writing. Haven’t had anyone in bitching about the trail conditions and it seems that everyone is out having fun. Except for one guest……he is having an over heating problem with his sled and it is over at Don’s getting worked on. The report from the town is still up to a 4″ base and good to fair. The forecast is looking go as there is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7 PM this evening to 8 am EST Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for the southern Adirondacks… the Lake George
region… and southern Vermont… which is in effect from 7 PM this
evening to 8 am EST Saturday.

Snow will overspread the advisory area this evening… and may
briefly fall heavily at times. The snow will then mix with… and
eventually change to sleet and freezing rain around… or just
after midnight. A mixture of sleet and freezing rain will then
occur… before tapering off by Saturday morning.

Snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected across
the advisory area… in addition to ice accumulation of one tenth
of an inch from freezing rain. However… higher amounts of snow
and ice are possible across
elevations above 1500 feet.
This combination of snow and ice will likely create treacherous
travel conditions tonight and early Saturday morning.

The wintry precipitation will be caused by a low pressure
system… that will track northeast from the mid Mississippi
Valley… into the Great Lakes this afternoon into tonight.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow… sleet… or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities… and use caution while
driving.

Keep your fingers crossed for us that we get it.

Trail Report

Well here it is…Christmas week in Old Forge.  I can tell you this…..it is 100% better than it was last year at this time.  I went south this morning and trail 6 looked good.  It did have a few spots that didn’t look all that nice from the short warm up we had.  But all in all the condition of it looked good. Track Side Blazers and the groomers in the Boonville were also out doing their magic.  We had some of our guests check in yesterday and they went out riding last night.  The report I got from them when they returned was riding was good and they have seen worse.  We have snow coming down as I am writing and have gotten about 2″ so far.  My guess after looking at the radar we will wind up with about 3″ maybe 4″.  There is a solid foot of snow in the yard at this time.  The report from the groomers is up to a 4″ base and good to fair conditions.   Long range forecast is looking better than it was.  As always time will tell.

Looks like…………

the band went home to get ready for Santa!  As the lake effect has stopped…..but before it did  it dropped about 3″ on us.  Everything is freezing down hard as a rock and we still have a foot on the ground out front at the pool fence.  Yes it would of been nice to keep what we had before the warm up.  But think back to just a year ago.  We’re in alot better shape than last year as it was green out front if my mind recalls correctly or it was close to it.  The report from the groomers really hasn’t changed much and the driveway out front didn’t change much either.  I think the snow out front mostly settled down more than it melted.

Hope you are already for Santa,
Steve

PS.  The roads are covered but I’m not how thick the base is on them.Â

The band is coming!!!

The lake effect machine is warming up and headed to Old Forge.  It is over the Watertown area now and is forecasted to move south later today.  We do have snow in the air now and we picked up around an inch after the R stopped last night.  There is one thing that is good about this whole thing……there doesn’t seem to be many people around riding and tearing up the trails.  So they will freeze down smooth after yesterdays warm up.  I’ll keep you posted on what the band does.
