Today’s video was taken by Gary and Randy. It is of the Pine Grove and trail 3 going towards trail 8. They said the groomers were out in force and the riding was some of the best they ever had. Sorry it took so long to post. Enjoy…………………
ask who gave the OK for the Snow Gods to take a vacation but it looks like they must of just been taking a nap. Today started out at 40 degrees and at 8:30 the cold front came through. We dropped 7 degrees in 10 minutes this morning from 8:30 to 8:40. So far it has dropped 20 degrees in the past 3 hours and it hasn’t stopped dropping yet. Check out the graph here to see it http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KNYOLDFO2
If the trails held like the parking lot did we should be Ok as everything is starting to freeze over after thr R last night. There are two different groups out riding and I will let you know how it is when they return.
Check back as things are starting to come around, some of the schools in the area are closing and the Weather Service just posted this:
… Lake effect Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory in effect until
6 am EST Thursday…
The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a lake effect
Snow and Blowing Snow Advisory… which is in effect until 6 am
EST Thursday for northern Herkimer and Hamilton counties.
Lake effect snow will continue to increase with intensity the
remainder of today for northern Herkimer and Hamilton counties.
The snow could be locally heavy at times through tonight with
total accumulations by Thursday morning between 4 and 6
inches… mainly near and north of Route 28. In addition… strong
westerly winds will cause significant blowing and drifting of snow
with visibilities less than one half mile at times. Lastly… wind
chill values will dip below zero tonight.
If you must travel… be prepared and allow for plenty of extra
time to reach your destination.
be all that bad. The second group returned around 6:30 after a afternoon of riding. I checked with them on how it was and they put on 109 miles had a sit down lunch and stopped a few times. The said that some places weren’t anything to talk about like the begining of the plains but after you got in it was well worth the trip. They also said the Old Forge trails are flat, smooth and had frozen down last night. So as I said in my earlier post it just a matter of wait and see as time will tell.
we have had a interesting mix of weather. It had dropped down to 5 degrees this morning and then we had freezing R for a short time around 8:30. I would say that amounted up to about an eighth of an inch or maybe a little more. At this time it is 35 and doing nothing at all, which I will take. Now for what it is going to do, that all depends on how fast the cold front gets to us tomorrow. I’m still seeing something that might be very good for the area……time will tell.
Now for the trails, I have some guests in that went out this morning and they told me the inner trails are in good shape but it is a little hard getting around town. It sounded like 1 wasn’t all that bad either and the other group I have in haven’t returned yet. I went south this morning and 6 had a mix of conditions some good and some bad but for the most part good.
Leaving Town…………..
The Uncas one of the tour boats that has been on the Fulton Chain of Lakes for over 20 years left town today on it’s trip to Oneida Lake where it will be doing a dinner cruise. It sounds like they caught the wires up town and took them down with the top of the boat. They had a car traveling in front of the boat with a pole sticking up to check the height of the wires…….guess they missed one! Sorry about the audio, I was on the phone.
boys in the groomers hit trail 1. Guests that had told me 1 was a mess over the weekend said the groomers got things back in shape and it isn’t all that bad after the weekend. Everyone is saying the other trails are in good shape and a blast to ride. For those of you that are in a panic over the forecast I wouldn’t jump ship just yet. I’m seeing a few things in the forecasts that could make things very interesting and that’s all I’m going to say at this point. Check out today’s video of trail 1 this morning.
Dominick and Kathy Antonucci, and all the kids, would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our Lord God and all the people who helped us when our sleds went into Raquette Lake last Sunday, January 20, 2008. Without the people who jumped into action to help, we would not be in the position today to write this thank you note advising that we have not only survived the ordeal but also recovered without any frostbite damage. Each and every one of you are heroes, whether you offered your warm dry hat to one of us, or took off the very shirt you were wearing, or pulled a child from icy water, or scooped up a frozen child and rode them to safety… you are all heroes. So many people helped us in so many ways and we don’t even know your names…may God bless you all for your love and kindness. Your selfless actions have forever touched our lives, reassuring us there are still truly good people in this world. We can only hope that our children will follow your example throughout their lives and maybe, because of you, they will do a similar act of love and selflessness for another stranger in need.
God Bless you and thank you from Dominick and Kathy Antonucci, and our kids Jerry, Carrie, Dominick, and Kenny Pastore.
weekend and I would say the busiest this season so far. We had snow in the air most of the time and that helped keep things together with all of the traffic the trails saw. I had one guest tell me that they had to sit and wait for traffic to pass before they could get out onto Big Moose road from trail #10. I didn’t even ask people about 1 and 5 as I know they got a work out. I’ll check on them later on tomorrow after the groomers get to do their magic on them. Todays video was done by Wes and he did a fine job of it……Enjoy!
This is from Carter Station down trail 3 through the intersection at trail 8 and ends just as he is going into the sharp S turn. It looks like the inner trails are holding up pretty good with the amount of traffic we have this weekend. I did have some people tell me that 1 and 5 are getting beat…but what else is new on a weekend.
