Old Forge Trail Report

Well the storm didn’t turn out to be as big as they thought it was going to be for us.  But it’s not off of the coast yet so maybe we will get something more from it yet.  Traffic has been light today.  I think the thought of having to travel in the storm kept some people at home this weekend.  One group did come up last night and they said it was the longest trip they ever had to Old Forge.  Here’s todays video………..

  1. Steve, Just wanted to say thanks for all your reports. It is really appreciated not only for your guests and visitors, but also, those of us who have a home up here. I think it is people like you in Old Forge that makes this a great town.

    Carolyn,

    Thanks for the kind words.

  6. Just got home from Forge. We rode Friday. We were planing on stayin through sat. but conditions sent us home. The prob is the roads are bare. Yo can get out of town. But moose rd is bare. Stillwater is 60% bare. Trail 5 after the trail 10 split is bare. There was 1 foot water holes from dakers through big moose yamaha. So you can ride. The inner trails have snow. but you can get to much futher. the rails are starting to show. hope this helps. I love riding the forge are. but with out the roads. It takes alot of riding out

  8. It’s Sunday a.m. up here in O.F. It’s 29 degrees and we had about almost a foot of wet stuff here. The biggest problem is the plows have taken the interior roads down to bare pavement already and it is only 7 AM. and getting warmer…Can someone post an email or phone number to complain?

  9. Stroker - Don’t waste your time or a phone call because Casey Crofut & Bob Moore will just laugh at you. You would get more results talking to the sand pile at the town highway dept. which Casey Crofut runs. By the time you wrote this comment, Big Moose Rd, South Shore Rd, Stillwater Rd have been plowed to nothing, on a Sunday morning when nobody is out. But it’s no difference if there is a foot of snow or a half an inch on the weekends during snowmobile season. They don’t want you on the roads period. And they’re doing everything they can to keep you off. I’ve snowmobiled up here for 31 years and lived here for 20 and this used to be the snowmobile capital of the East and they turned it in to the snowmobile sewer of the East. Next year, why buy a trail permit if there are no roads to get to the trails or out of the trails. That’s why everybody is going to Tug Hill and Boonville where they appreciate your business. Roads are made for cars & their safety, but they can leave a little bit of snow on both sides so you can get from place to place. John R

  10. that sums it up very well, the town does not want sleds on the roads and they dont give a rats azz if you cant get to the trails, remember they got your money already, if it was bitter cold out with the snow the last few days there would be snow left on the roads for the simple reason they cant get the snow to melt after plowing, they will never listen to the snowmobilers so its up to the bussiness owners that get our hard earned cash to complain but that will fall on deaf ears also, bottom line its the end of febuary, theres no real cold air around the fat ladys getting ready, the song of choice, it must have been love but its over know, remember in october 2010 think of bare roads before you buy that trail permit

  11. Not to complain, but john and jack are right. Also did anyone else notice the condition of the trails Sat a.m.? Ive never seen it that bad, and im talking about trails 1, 3, 5, 6 and 9. it looked like Sun p.m., not Sat a.m. Were they not grooming thurs and fri?
