Old Forge Trail Report

Something that I forgot to put in the video.  If you are thinking about getting in that one last ride you will need to get it in pretty fast unless we get some snow here and there.  Because what will happen after many days of freeze and thaws the trails will turn in to super hard pack and ice and there won’t be anything to keep the slide rails cool.  Here’s todays video…….

  3. I’ll be able to give you an idea later tonight! Unburried my trailer and brought 5 sleds down to the campground so we can access the trail without any road riding. Parked them at my friends seasonal rental there since they cleared out for the season already. We’ll drive down in a bit and then go out for a nice long ride tonight. I’ll report back later. Trails should be softer than late last night when it was all hard pack…..

  4. Took trail #1 all the way out towards Brantingham where an Old Forge groomer had just finished the way out and was turned around at the beginning of 10 mile crossing (where OF stop and Brantingham starts).. Went Stoney Lake Trail vs. The logging road and then the street and other than a few bumps it was fine and the way to go at this point. Dinner at Pine Tree and back the same way. 82 miles and I have to say the trails were mint. Much better before 7PM than after as the cold hard pack is not great. Going out again tomorrow (later today as it’s 4AM now…lol) as I’m sure it’s very close to the last hurrah. No traffic and groomed trails = awesome time had by all…..get your butts here for early Friday riding.

  5. Rode on Thursday and did 175 miles! Started at Cedar River Road and took Moose River Plains, which were awesome tons of snow in the plains. When entering Eagle Bay take 4th Lake and stay off of Trail 5 as much as possible (there is NO snow on Trail 5) The best Trails are 1, 3, 2, 9. Went to the Pine Tree for some soup and heades back. The Railroad track aren’t exposed , but were bumpy.
In regards of the trails there is still snow in the inner trails, but stay away from Trail 5. I would recomend that you unload at Enchanted Forest and ride from there!

  7. “The curtain has closed on the current smash hit entitled “OLD FORGE: MYTH OR LEGEND?”… and the fat lady is backstage drinking lemon water and preparing for her closing ceremonial performance as the encore to an interesting year…

Trailer to Enchanted Forest or the Town Rec Center (snodeo hall) and start your day there…but hurry, it will be 50 degrees on sunday!

Thank you Steve for the texts, videos and posts..

    see you in December..

  8. Don’t go south - even though they groomed 6 it’s beat and worn and all the road crossings and riding is not worth it. The tracks or bust! The tracks are passable but bumpy and only 1 trestle was fully exposed (the one just before Old McKeever Station heading south). Went to Big Moose Station for lunch (awesome cheese steak again Rick - thanks) and then 7 to 6 but that was a mistake and event hough Trackside trails were good around White Lake Inn everything was toast and overall far worse than Thursday due to the traffic increase……weekend warrior suckers,,,,,lol I’m out for the year but will come up to beat the new sleds on the 12th, 13th, 14th….lol

    Thanks Steve

    Tim
