Old Forge is known as

"The Snowmobile Capital of the East"

With hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails and lake effect snow off of Lake Ontario, it's easy to understand why Old Forge is the snowmobile capital of the east. Our average year round temperature is 38 degrees and Old Forge still holds the record for the coldest recorded temperature in New York State of 52 degrees below zero. Our trails are maintained by Town of Webb snowmobile trail crews. They work on the trail system twelve months of the year. When it's not snowing they are out maintaining, improving and working on opening new trails for you to enjoy. When it's snowmobile season, they are out grooming the trails two shifts a day, seven days a week. With as many as three machines at a time, pulling mogul master drags .(Weather Permitting)  Ride directly from the motel, Old Forge is unique, because you can ride on any street except State Rt. 28. Behind the motel we have a large lot to park your trailer and parking in front for your vehicle and sled.  Finding a parking place is never a problem and in the front of every room there are hooks to hang up your snowmobile covers.

Other winter activates include: down hill skiing at McCauley Mountain, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ice fishing and ice skating.
